NL pitchers involve a greater risk to injure their pitching arms. If you're a manager, would you ask your pitcher NOT to try too hard at bat?

It happens - it's not common, but it happens. It would be most likely when the opposing pitcher had done something considered unsportsmanlike - intentionally beaning a player, for example.

Depends on the situation. If I where a manger I would not want be best pitcher to get tossed out of the game early. Maybe later in the game with a comfortable lead. After all winning the game is more important.

If I weere in charge, any pitcher throwing at another pitcher in retaliation would be kicked out for the season.

They will do it to defend or make up for the other team hitting their pitcher or other players..
