Could someone please help me explain what amphoteric means using H2S as an example? Thanks for any help!

Take the ion HS-, which is made from H2S.

HS- + H+ ----> H2S (HS- acting as a base)

HS- + OH- ----> S2- + H2O (HS- acting as an acid).
