i am 'emo' myself and i really dont see a problem with it. sure my bf wears skinny jeans, converse, eyeliner, and has spiked up hair, but whats wrong with that? we just have our own oppinions.....

Wow ... I had never heard of emo before, so I just looked it up briefly (google had plenty of stuff, I stuck to the sites written by people who described themselves as emos).
We don't hate you. I am 40 years old now, but I wasn't always. I remember what it is like to be a teenager and if there is a merciful Goddess/God I will never be a teenager again. I think most people do forget that when they were teenagers and in their early 20s that life just plain sucked.
So, please don't think of emos as people everyone hates. And I assure you, if you live another 20 years not only will you be horrified at who you are now, you will be horrified at what people your age are like now. You'll hate their music, you'll hate the way they dress, you'll hate the way they act. Then after seeing this cycle enough, you'll figure out that hate is a terrible thing to do to yourself and you'll just learn to accept people as being who and what they are.

it's not the clothes that people really have a problem with. it is the fact that emo people give people who have serious depression and self mutilation problems a bad name when they run around hurting themselves and being mean to everyone else who is not like them because it is trendy. when emo people join together and show contempt towards people who have done nothing to them because they dress differently etc, they are acting the same as the "popular" jocks and preps.

People always say they are just expressing themselves or being themselves. But why does that mean you have to wear a special costume or style? Most people I know who do it are protesting society or life but it would be a better use of your time to find someone worse than you to help. Volunteering to hold crack babies or serving in an inner city food kitchen will help you realize you don't have it so bad.

because it has now become a generic group to lump people in like goths, rockers, nerds and jocks.
Unfortunately it has also been apprehended by teens and trendy people who are not emo but think it is cool to look like it and as a result a lot of people tend to hate the original emo group.

What makes you so sure that people hate you?
If they do, what makes you so sure that it is the fact you are EMO, and nothing to do with your own personality?

well, because they are kinda like goths. and they were really baggy pants, and the make up is just to heavy on them. and some look crazy, almost like people from Ganges (no offense) also, they don't really look into their future,some do weed. but honesty i think that some (not saying you and ur bf) need to get a life!!!!!

it's not so much how they dress, it's that they pretend to be sad. pretending to be sad is a mockery of people who truly are sad.
i know what you're thinking, yes, perhaps some truly are sad. but when it's an entire clique then most in the clique are just trying to fit in, same with any other clique.

I dont think people hate emos, just might find it a bit...depressing? with all the wrist cutting, not all do that tho, its a bit stereotypical i spose, people probably think its attention seeking. apart 4rm that its just lyk evry1 else with their own style
