How long will it take to get from earth to mercury?

Mariner 10 was launched on November 3 1973, and made its first approach of Mercury on March 29, 1974, so that makes it about 5 month journey. Travel time depends on a lot of factors, in the case of Mariner 10, it used Venus for sling-shot effect.
MESSENGER, which was launched on August 3rd 2004, will get in orbit around Mercury (so it will not be just fly-byes like for Mariner 10) in March 2011, after swinging by Earth once, Venus twice, and also Mercury three times, so that is hardly a "direct" route.

That depends entirely upon the route chosen to get there and your mode of travel, i.e, unmanned space probe, or occupied space vehicle.

An unmanned space probe can withstand many more G Forces than human beings can. Also, you don't have to provide large amounts of consumeables (fresh water, food, air) for an unmanned probe, so it can be lighter, smaller and travel faster with less equipment onboard to fail.

One probe recently made the trip in about five months using a Venus fly-by to pick up additional speed. So if you were looking at possibly doing that, I would say five months is a good estimate. Plan on being cooped up for a LONG time.
You can't land on Mercury, so after say 8 or 10 orbits you might as well head home. Oh, yes, that is another 5 month trip back. So your journey will take the better part of a year
by the time you add in all of the set up time pre flight. Around three to five years would seem adequate for the preparation for a Mercury flight. So in total I would put the total time required at about 4 to 6 years assuming that you use a space craft that is already in existance. Construction of a specialized ship for the Mercury venture might take another ten to fifteen years and a huge outlay of cash.

Well if you go to the NASA site you will find out because we have already sent a craft there and it will be arriving soon.
