This is my experience, I would like to share with you. I depositedd my check and the bank processed the check at the same time the bank deducted the payment debts. As a result, the bank claimed I did not have enough fund to pay for my debts and charge me for fees. Because, the large amount of check I had deposite, the Bank had to make sure it got the money. So, I went to the bank and try to get my fees back. The bank manager gave me the phone center that I can connect, I was unable to negotiate with the bank employers. I was frustrated but, I never give up. I called again and again to get to the top CEO of the bank.I explained my situation to her. I would like my over charge fees back and I want The CEO to see what really happened to me and my account. I did have money in the bank and I am a good client who is responsible. Let's make a deal, another 2 days I got my refund fee back as well as a letter. I was happy that I fought and I won.Now it is your turn to make sure you have a case. Then you ask your bank if you are wrong do not hesitate to ask the bank to give you a second chance. I am sure you will get a result. Try again.

How come you had to pay bank charges these days?
You would only be charged for drawing money from the bank that was not yours to draw.
If the bank has made a mistake then write to them and I am sure they would repay the charges.

Firstly you write a letter to the bank asking for the return of charges if they are excessive. Headline your letter "Complaint". Point out that you will take the matter up with the F.S.O. (Financial Services Ombudsman) . This will frighten the life out of them because if a case is referred to them it will cost you nothing but it will cost the bank £360 per claim regardless of the outcome so you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Good luck.
You can download the form on ; www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk or you can fill it in on screen, print it off then post it to the address given on screen.

Actually if you really want, you can sue the bank for the bank charges as it is illegal under the unfair consumer term act but simply no one bother to do so as the legal fees might be much more. There is case when people succeeded in the legal suit.

Try this site, www.moneysavingexpert.com it will tell you everythng and even give you a template of a form to fill in to send to your bank. I looked into doing it, but this site tells you the risks, including the bank closing your account and black listing your credit and ability to open accounts with other banks, and I didnt think it was worth it till I had heard some more good results.

If you are claiming overdraft/NSF or over limit charges then you cant get very far since they are legal..
If the bank made erroneous charges to your account, i would suggest you contact the bank first.. you can use the toll free number found behind your check card, or send them e-mail...

Contact your citzens advice office , they will be able to put you in touch with people who will help you free of charge. In Glasgow theres a group called Govan law Centre who are very good. They have a website. Go for it, after all they can only say no, but don't give up first time . My niece got £5000 back.

There was an article about this subject recently in my mum's magazine and it gave you a load of websites and instructions on what to do - I did tear the page out with the intention of trying it but the page is sitting on my desk at work at the moment! Sorry that's not much help but if I remember, I will respond again tomorrow when I get to work.
