My betta has a fungus thing. Melafix didn't work. I'm not sure if its a fungus or a parasite so I am wondering, what is the best all-purpose medication that they sell at walmart? We're going there today. And there are no pet stores around where we live except one an hour away.

I really don't think it's a good idea to just throw in meds and hope you pick the right one. Parasite and Fungus problems have different symptoms so you might want to describe what's wrong and figure it out. Fungus pretty much like mold. Meds like Pimafix (same company as melafix) works very well to cure it. Parasites are tougher to judge - they can be internal or external, and easy or difficult to spot, and there isn't a med that can deal with every kind of parasite.

Melafix isn't really a medication meant to deal with real problems like this. It helps to heal minor issues and injuries, but that's about it.

If you feel that your betta has a fungus you need a medication for fungus. If it's white cottony looking stuff on the fish, odds are very good that's the problem. A Ghapy said, don't use a "cure all" type medication, those rarely get the job done. If you need help figuring out what's wrong with your fish, please add as many details about how this problem looks and how the fish acts as possible and we can certainly help you out.

No such thing as a one product cures all medication...
For fungus or other parasite, something with methylene blue. I believe this has methylene blue.

You don't want to over medicate and cause other problems.
