Actually they point towards the equator! All satellites are at the equator and because we're in the Northern atmosphere (usa) then the dish points towards south. If you were in Brazil or Australia then it would point towards the North

And the reason for them being at the equator is so the entire side of the planet(north and south) can focus on it.

by way of fact the satellites used for broadcasting are all in geostationary orbit approximately 25,000 miles over the equator. The dishes might desire to show rapidly at those so as that they are going to be pointing in a southerly direction. yet no longer inevitably due south, maximum will factor slightly south east or south west. the honestly direction relies upon on the area of the suitable satellite tv for pc relative to the factor on the earth the place the receiver dish is placed.

The satellites used are located right around Texas. In order to get the signal, you have to point your dish towards the satellite. Thus, your satellite faces south.

The T.V. satellite is well to the south, this gives most of North and South America a clear path to the signal.

The satellite rebroadcasting the TV signals is in a geosynchronous orbit over South Texas. That is where your dish is pointing because that is where the satellite is always found..

I agree with VIP. I thought it was that the satellites were over the equator. I think it would be nearly impossible for a satellites to "hover" over Texas.

Only when you are north of the satellite, which is in a fixed position somewhere over Texas.

Because that's the general area where the communications satellite is hovering.
