In some soccer knock out tournaments a team will play one game at home and one game away and then add the scores together. That is the aggregate. Whoever had scored the most goals over the two legs proceeds to the next round. Things start getting tricky when when after both games the both teams have scored the same amount of goals.
Aggregate just adds the goals from the match first match to the second match.

The two teams play home and away legs. The aggregate score is the scores for both games added up. For instance, Barcelona and Lyon play. Barca wins the first leg at home 2-1. Lyon wins the second leg at home 1-0. The aggregate score would be 2-2. With a tie like that, the winner would be the one with the most away goals. Since Lyon scored a goal at Barca, they advance.

You play two legs. 1 home 1 away. The aggregate score is the sum of the goals you score in both games. In Europe, if the aggregate score is tied, the team that scores the most away goals advances, this is called the 'away goals' rule. In America (North and South) if the aggregate score is tied after both games, on the 2nd game you go overtime, then penalty shoot-outs regardless of who scored the most away goals.
