Yes, By selling them to scrap dealers for a frraction of the going rate of Aluminum.

Basically they are free cash, removing the opener does not reduce ability to return the can for deposit refunds and yet allows a someone to collect up a few lbs of aluminum which can be sold to scrap yards at the going rate for aluminum.
Since the openers are dense, they are somewhat heavy and saving them can add up quickly.

Often charities ask many people to save the openers, individually it may take a while to save a pound of them, but with many people contributing, the weight added up

Current price of Aluminum is about 1.25 per lb

All aluminum can be recycled and the pop tops of the soda can are aluminum. But there are other sources of aluminum that most people over look. Rain gutters that have been replaced on a home. Screen doors, the metal around windows ,semi truck fuel tanks, cab guards, alloy wheels,. See if some of the trucking companys around you have old metal scrap piles you can clean up. Most do.Take a small magnet with you and touch it to metal. If it sticks its not aluminum. But remember all metals are recycleable.

Most collect them for hobbies. Like making wall ornaments or yard decor. If it is aluminum then they are worth money. I have even seen license plate borders made out of them.

I guess for from recycling you could. My daughters school tried to collect 1,000,000 of them one year to show the kids what a million of something would look like. They sent them to recycle when they were done.

Usually schools and charitable organizations do this. Evidently there is more aluminum in the pull tab than in the whole can. So, they get some recycling money that way.
