Yes, like most all live bearers they will eat any they can find within minutes of them being borne. Your best bet for breeding them is a very heavily planted tank (natural or artificial plants) for only the female when she gives birth and them to remove her right after she's finished.

Yes platies will eat their young.what happens is this.
in the natural world (of non-domesticated fish) Fish mothers give birth and have a high ammount of a certain hormone which stops her from eating her young. Shortly after birth the little fry go off and hide in the bushes and algae. The birthing hormone which was previously present dies away and the mother is now in "eat babies mode" . She will eat all fry which come accross her. Scientists believe that they do this because the other fry are competition for her babies, and she wants her offspring to survive over the others. As far as we know it is impossible for a mother to know which fry are hers.

Cant say specificaly that it will eat all of them, but most livebearers will if given the chance. Guppys are the best at leaving fry alone, if you dont want to set up breeding traps or a seperate fry tank.
edit:
lol, I should have worded that diffrently. Most likely you will have fry survive especially if you have alot of plants for them to hide around. However if the tank is realitivly bare and you have more than just the mother fish in there they may get eaten.

You bet. Most fish do. The rule is if it can fit in it's mouth, it's food. Best bet is to keep the young ones away from adults in a breeding trap. Once they outgrow the trap, make certain your tank has enough plants (real or fake) to provide hiding space.
Raised platies for about 16 years as a somewhat profitable hobby.

Yes they do. the second the babies have been born they will go after them. all live bearers attempt to eat their young. You should buy a breeders net or a separate tank to separate the babies and the adults after birth. Or you can put in a lot of anchor plants and by a lot i mean a lot lot and other types of plants that heavily cover your tank bed. by doing so your little babies can hide from the parents, but your supposed to plant the plants before they are born and feeding will be difficult during this time if they are not separated by different tanks or a net

Well obviously they don't eat all of them, or there would be none left in short order.
Mind the bills, they tend to be a bit chewy and cause indigestion.
