Is it the long ball hitter....the pitching...the team effort...the history and excitement of the pennant chase....etc?

What appeals to you the most about the game of baseball that makes it the great American sport?

I consider it to be a great summer event. It is like having a BBQ and inviting all your friends. On a nice night or weekend afternoon, it is nice going to the ballpark to watch my Texas Rangers. It is about excited but it is also about the fact that I love baseball. I love to watch the games.

Several things. The sport itself has power, tension, one-on-one drama at every at bat, spectacular athleticism. The sport is a tradition. My father brought us to ball games. He went to ball games when he was a kid. Plus, each of us played little league and pick up sandlot games and can identify with professional ballplayers. It is that combination for me when I go to a ball game, even if I am visiting a new city and don't care which team wins. When the Red Sox are playing, there is no limit on my enthusiasm.

First I might question your intial question. Some would say that baseball is a dying sport. As for me, I love the marathon season and the idea that one or two losses isn't that devastating. Hitting is obviously the most fun thing to watch. A great defensive play is a thing of beauty.

I think it is all of those. In any game a fan has a chance to see something that has never happened before. I was at the game when Fernando Tatis of the Cardinals in 1999 hit 2 grand slams in an inning. That has never happened before in the history of the game.

It's an easy to follow sport that caters to the casual fans. Also I think some fans like to follow players development through the minor league system. It's slow pace also lends itself to being a social activity. you can go to a game and talk to your friends without missing out.

It is the only game that does not need to use a clock.Every game is different. You can play games against the same pitcher and the same weather conditions and the results could still be different.
