Not trying to spark a cable vs dsl debate. I know it's a touchy subject, but..
If possible, switch to a cable connection. I've known many people who had similar problems with dsl, but were never able to get any sort of decent speed, even with the highest package offered. They were just too far away from phone company station. Nothing you can do about that except move. That's what I like about cable very little signal degradation compared to dsl. And the idea of shared bandwidth limiting your speed is just not a factor.
The very minimum I get is 3400 down. Just ran a speed test and got 5383. Up minimum is usually around 5-600.

My two cents, I don't like seeing people wasting money if they can help it.

cheers

Check Verizon DSL specs for upload/download speeds.
If they are lower than the specs, complain.
If they are not you will need to upgrade your plan. I use ATT here are their plans and specs.

AT&T Yahoo! High Speed Internet Express Package
384 Kbps to 1.5 Mbps download 128 to 384 Kbps upload One year $14.99/month

AT&T Yahoo! High Speed Internet Pro Package
1.5 to 3.0 Mbps 384 to 512 Kbps One year $24.99/month

AT&T Yahoo! High Speed Internet Elite Package
3.0 to 6.0 Mbps 384 to 608 KbpsOne year $34.99 /month

Cable speeds are typically 4, 6, 8, 10, 16 Mbps upstream bandwidth and 384 Kbps - 1 Mbps downstream depending on the area and the plan.

I even have had the two and Cable information superhighway worked quicker for me. additionally, the extra you're out of your DSL service, the slower it is going to be. i develop into fortunate adequate to be a block away so it ran tremendously speedy. yet i these days switched to Cable modem and it develop into lots quicker. some Cable information superhighway businesses now furnish bigger speeds than they did previously too, like Time Warner. yet, i think of you need to pay greater for it. yet even the essential information superhighway that I had develop into quicker than DSL. For DSL, it honestly relies upon on your area. in spite of the undeniable fact that, i could say attempt it out in the event that they do no longer commit you to a pair form of long term settlement. in case you sense DSL is faster, than by all means, choose for it. My account develop into in simple terms based on very own journey, yet perchance others have had distinctive reports. solid luck.

Instead of DSL connection go for ADSL connection with higher speed. This will cost you little more but it will work very fine.

you need to check your hardware. there's no way that you should get faster download speeds using Wi-Fi then with a wired Ethernet connection.

You have to pay for a higher baud rate. Ask your provider
