The solid part of a comet is small in comparison with a planet. However, sometimes a comet appears to be larger than the Sun. What makes it seem so large?

The tail of the comet can make it seem larger, and also the comet can pass by the earth very closely, thus it looks bigger. It's like holding an apple. The apple looks a lot bigger than the bus down the street, though you know it isn't.
