I was always told that the anti bodies and acids in the mouth help clean the wound.
Animals do it all the time, so I'm sure it must do something good for you.
Also, cuts in the mouth or lips heal a lot faster usually than other small cuts due to benefit of being in that moist, antibacterial environment.

I guess it is a reflex action that is unconcosuis in the person. Like when you burn yourself, a reflex is too take your hand away from the pain, like a child when they fall over they may not cry until they see the blood! Some people when they cut themselves have an automatic reaction to get rid of the blood by the first way they can, which is to suck in. I'm sure they are not vampires!! It is just a reaction.

A reaction to pain. Money see, Monkey do. I never though of it like you ask it? lol I think when I see people do this it seems to mean that they are applying pressure with the month, and at the same time it helps with the blood mess.I do think that the pressure applied to the cut by the month area causes the pain to be less intense thus helping people deal with a cut more. You have a great day and God Bless you always.

Yes it does make it feel better. Not sure if this is more psycological though cos it's probably the same for a lot of people but if I fell over when I was young & cut myself I was told to put my finger in my mouth & suck. It was comforting then & still is now.

Blood does taste awful, but in the absence of a tap to run it under, your mouth is the nearest thing to stem the flow of blood - & not many people seem to have tissues these days either!!! It's not very sterile, but it does dry the blood up!!!

put simply, the saliva in your mouth contain an enzyme that clots the blood. this stops the blood from flowing.
however, this is not really a good idea. besides blood clotting enzymes, your mouth contains a petri dish of bacteria. this bacteria is used in cleaning your teeth, breaking down and tasting food, etc. these bacteria, although helpful in the mouth, are not helpful in your finger or other bleeding area. so, sticking your cut in your mouth is just inviting an infection in!

sucking on an open wound reduces throbbing in the cut. a small amount of blood will only taste a little salty and it will keep it from getting blood on anything.
running it under cold water will do the same thing.

Saliva helps to stop blood flow. The idea isn't to suck but to seal the wound. It's a natural instinct to most people but I can see why others conditioned to this 'clinical' world we live in would find it gross.

In one's mind, yes, it does ease the pain, cos babies cry and suck their thumb, also, it's better than letting your blood drip everywhere until you are able to get a proper bandage and anti-bacterial for it.

It does sound horrible but I think it is a natural instinct.
When you run your bloody finger under running water
its really painful. (It makes the back of my knees throb)
But when I have sucked it = it soothes = honest!!
I mean, I wouldn'l dream of sucking anybody elses!!
