I live in the UK. I start work at 9.00am, but I have to be at work by 8.30am as this is stated in my contract. Why do most jobs start at 9.00am? I wish that they would start at 9.30am or even 10am.
I wake up at 6.30am, leave the house at 7.30am and arrive at work at around 8.30am. I find all of this exhausting. Do people out there agree with me? Why can't there be a later start to the working day? Is it the same in other countries?

Why do we have to work 35 hours a week. The only reason that we WORK is so that we can LIVE. We don't LIVE so that we can work. What kind of life is that whereby you only have the weekend to do your own stuff.

I'm lucky, I work a job where we have flexitime which means that I can arrive anytime before 10.00, business permitting, and as long as we work our hours over the week we can leave after 4 as well. I find this a much better system than the 9-5 working as you can fit in things like going to the bank or post office or just have a lay in on a Monday morning. I think this is the way that companies should start thinking and working as it's flexible for them as well as when I have a lot of work I often stay later or come in earlier.

Having all the office start work at the same time helps businesses because everyone knows when they will be open and able to conduct business. However, flextime is becoming increasingly popular among some industries to allow for different staff needs and to help alleviate traffic during 'rush hours'

Every job differs in start time; but yes the common start time (even here in the USA) is 9AM.

Lucky for me I start @ 11:30 AM and finish by 8:30 PM

( I work in a hospital and that is considered 2nd shift)

It doesn't HAVE to start at 9, it just generally does.

I can totally sympathise (An early night is a must when you're working the next day!).

I don't know why the work hours aren't later - maybe ask your boss about flexibler hours?

If they started later, they'd finish later, & you'd still be at work at 9pm, having started at midday, feeling very fed up!!! Think of the people who work longer than 8 hours a day!!!
