Lance, I noticed that Iraq used to be a soveriegn independent free country, and now it is a chaotic colony occupied by 150,000 foreign troops.
Not exactly the march of freedom, is it?

Happy1 - I completely agree that Nazi Germany had to be overthrown to liberate the countries it had occupied.

Actually, I believe every HUMAN has the right to be free.
Not sure whether it applies to nations -- is a nation (such as, say, N. Korea) free when it's people aren't?
Not that I think invading a country and basically destroying it (such as we've done) is the answer.
I just don't know that the right of freedom belongs to the abstract entity the state; I think it applies to individuals.
(Notice, if you've been paying any attention to the situation in Iraq, the people there are LESS free now, and generally much worse off. Also, they overwhelmingly want the occupying forces OUT.)

Yes, they do. And you're obviously referencing the Iraq war there. I'll admit we're occupying it right now. But for what purpose? So they can be liberated and free from the past Iraqi regime. If we left now it would descend into chaos and major players in the region would invade it and commit ethnic cleansing and then annex parts of the country. Places that would do this are most likely Iran, Syria, Jordan

Dear Longhaired Freaky Person,
Every nation has the right to be free. In order for that to happen, governments sometimes need to be overthrown such as Nazi Germany.

Yes & no. Freedom is enabled when a country makes the choice to live as a civilized member in the world. When this isn't their choice they don't have the right to complain when someone (us) or that useless UN decides otherwise. countries have the right to expect their neighbors to comply with acceptable behavior & laws. When this isn't practiced they have the right to make those changes.

1. Yes.
2. I believe this to be a mischaracterization of what is happening in Iraq.
3. I think we have been blessed as Americans and have some responsibility as human beings to the rest of humanity.
4. I do not want the US to look like Spain. France. Denmark.
Take a look at how radical Islam is strangling those nations.

Absolutely as long as human rights are not stepped on and people are stopped from voicing their opinions and beat up on the streets stopping their opposition to things they don't agree with ! Free speech is the way to change things and should not be deterred !

Every person should have freedom of choice. If they want to be a bunch of serfs living by 16th century standards, let 'em. We don't need to be over there and our troops are dying for capital hill's agenda which equates to nothing for the common man.

I believe that every nation has the right to be whatever they want to be. If they want to live under communist control or under a dictator it is the people's choice. After all, they could always overthrow their gov't and bring about any change they want. I have no right to force my beliefs on anyone else.
