I bought a cheap Honda Civic as my first car a few months ago with 137k miles. I've been noticing that it doesn't accelerate as much as it should and sometimes the gears dont catch. Will a tuneup fix this and how much does a tuneup cost? If not, what can I do.

i own a shop, and a tune up wont help with the transmission in it,i think you need to take it to transmission shop and let someone there drive it or look it over ,i think the problem is the transmission is slipping on it,and they might be able to repair it ,if not it may get a lot worse on it,good luck ,i hope this helps.

Check your gear selector lever that the lever lock clicks when drive is indicated.
Check adjustment linkage on gear select on bottom side of gear box also check your oils and change oil and filters on both engine and transmission.
Always check you auto trans fluid while engine started and hand brakes applied with gear in drive position while in ideal

It's not a tuneup. If you're lucky it's just mis-adjusted shift linkage. If you're not, it's a rebuilt transmission. I hope you didn't pay more than $500 for that thing.
