I don't see why you should put your cell phone on silent in a public place, I don't see how it is rude to have your phone ring on a train, or in a restaurant or somewhere. So go ahead leave your phone on. Yes, you have a right to ask that person to turn it silent or even off, because you are watching a movie and it is distracting and rude. At the start of every movie they ask you to silent your phones so it is only fair that other people do too. If they give you problems you have every right to complain to the theater and they can kick them out.

I don't know, but I think that public shaming would be fun, even if it doesn't work. Go up to these morons and nod our heads collectively, mumbling "uh-hunh" about 6,509 times and asking them to REPEAT everything, because we might have missed a word or two.
