Sometimes I feel like I am unable to really love. I do not have kids yet...maybe I will feel real love then. But this concerns me. I can be very self absorbed at times, and also slow to trust anyone. Is this a shared feeling amongst most?

Yes I have. and you have part of the reason...self absorption can be consuming. But it also says that you are not truly happy with yourself because you probably are your worst critic. Once you find your inner happiness, sharing it with another person will be much easier.

For me I have a problem with trust issues from the ex, so right now, no I am not capable of loving someone. When I fall in love it doesn't come easy, but once I do I fall hard. I give everything into it, so now I know for me I would be better off not giving into that again.

I've felt that sometimes before. I think because I've loved a lot of guys that didn't love me the way I wanted to be loved. Even when I did something out of love, I'd second guess myself and go "well, was I really doing that out of love, or for selfish reasons?" Even now, I don't think I love my mother the way I ought to. But, I've got a guy now that I can love completely because he loves me completely, so there's no doubt about whether I can love anymore. :)

U seem to be saying exactly what I used to feel. It used to scare me then as I thouht I was weird, never loved nor trusted anyone even after marriage. But things have changed now. I love my husband deep and my daughter? She's my life. When u get to that stage, no one will tell u, people like us always fall deep when we eventually do. Love is sweet. Wish U experience it soon

Most people have felt that way in some time of their life. If self absorption and lack of trust are the issues and you realize that, only you can change that portion of your life. I suggest doing something that will benefit others, such as some volunteer work.

Hmmm interesting sounds like me a little . If your like me its a defense mechanism ! I don't love because I feel like nobody can ever love me ! I know it sounds screwed up but your just going to have to wait for that special person that comes along and changes all that !

No it isn't. Some people find it hard to love because they might get hurt. Try a little more trust, it might help.

K...I have to ask this...have you ever hurt someone over and over and over and rejected their love when you knew they loved you?

I read somewhere when someone does that...ultimately they will be incapable of loving and being loved.
