The membranes are all composed of the bilayer of phospholipids ... not just the plasma membrane, but the membranes of the Golgi apparatus, nuclear envelope, vesicles, vacuoles, endoplasmic reticulum, chloroplasts and mitochondria (inside and outside), and on and on. Without lipids, none of these membranes would exist. The membranes have myriad functions that rely on the phospholipids, not the least of which are keeping the cellular or organelle contents separate from the surroundings and allowing certain materials to slip through while preventing others from passing through.

Hello! I agree with the post above. PHOSPOlipids make up the plasma membrane of cells, creating a lipid bilayer. It contributes to the polarity of the cell, and allows (or disallows) chemicals to enter and exit. I hope this helps.

well, just think about it. Have you ever heard of the phospholipid bilayer. The lipids in it make it easy for osmosis and chemical transports.
