No I don't think it's the normal evolution of society but I would suggest that the potiental for lasting world peace is infinitely greater through the introduction of globalisation. Also there are other benifits that could come about that could cause very positive changes to many poorer areas of the world.

If you look to the European Union as a microcosm you can see some of the possible benifits that a global trading agreement could bring. Europe has had no major conflicts since the introduction of the E.U and has greatly removed barriers to the free movement of goods and people. The result is a huge trading area of seperate countries that have become dependent upon each other to service the large area covered by the union.

Initially the richer countries subsidised the poorer countries to allow them to modernise their infrastructure and as trade began to flow freely across the union the poorer countries began to see the benifits of E.U membership in increased private investment, reduced unemployment and higher government revenues.

While the European model is far from perfect it has allowed us a glimpse of the potential benifits of creating a global version built on a similar model to the European version. Europe has now enjoyed a period of 60 years of peace (which in itself is an incredible achievement given the fact that both world wars originated in Europe) unemployment blackspots have been greatly reduced, smaller countries are enjoying unprecedented wealth, a majority of companies are enjoying greater profits through a hugely expanded market place, improvements in infrastructure benifit everybody, not just businesses, and E.U citizens can live and work in any country in the trading block which in itself is breaking down barriers and obstacles and helping to avoid conflicts and disagreements caused by cultural ignorance.

If you imagine the result of a global trading area with the same basic structures of economic inter-dependency and supports you could nearly be excused for believing that there really is a possibility of a lasting world peace. While the E.U model suggests it is possible the fact remains that in order for it to be successful on a global scale we will need the support and co-operation of both governments and large corporations and in particular a shift away from the practice of simply exploiting countries for cheap labour and natural resources.

Short term, agressive, quick profit making ventures will need to be replaced with long term commitments and investmentments in order for economies to grow to self sustaining levels. The long term benifits are obvious not just in financial terms but also in terms of cross country agreements, improved standards of living in poorer countries and increased cultural understanding.

Globalism and international business already have brought us (as consumers) a lot of good things. In combination with telecommunications technology, consumers can find just about any product and have it shipped just about anywhere in the world. Of course, there are a lot of unethical business practices coming to light (for example, businesses subverting local laws by practicing in other countries and then shipping the product), but what can you do? With the technological boom of the last 100 years, this was inevitable.

Globalism is really multinational Capitalism, it makes labor weak, puts money into the hands of a few, and puts our national national resources, forests and environment at risk. It doesn't have to be that way, but no one has the courage to confine Wall Street...If the US did not want to pursue it and limited the activities of US corporations, there would be no globalism, but there would be "Regionalism"

I intensely dislike globalism. But there are some good things happening in the world, because of it. China is democratizing. I see this as a very good thing.

Americans will have to be creative to stay competitive.

I have never heard of globalized society on this planet before.
I would not then consider it to be a normal evolution.
