My cats get very cuddley and the dog puts his head on my lap.

yes. my cats can be very comforting.
and the same for them. I think sometimes they look depressed, or like they have a tummy ache.

usually my cat is terrified of people and runs when i go towards him but if im upset he will come over and rub against my back or something like that....my dog doesn't really pay attention to how i'm feeling as long as i' willing to scratch his stomach....and i know that my 2 fish don't really care...lol

Yeah ! And they give me a hard time about it. How come when anybody loves you they start hen picking you. Can I swap my gnu with your dogs and cats ?

Yes, definitely. They sense it. One of my cats in particular comes over right away if any of us are crying.

i think cats & dogs definitely know. my canary...i'm not sure. but he does sing when i get home from work and that always makes me feel better.
