Im having a hard time seeing the background through my fish tank. I noticed that if it gets wet u can see it a lot better. Should I wet the whole thing?

Yes you can. make sure the glass is clean and use a ruler to make the air bubbles go to the edge and escape or you will have air pockets in it. I do this and tape mine on the sides just in case is comes loose.

Wetting the background won't hurt,I've even heard of people using cooking oil to adhere the background to the tank. I wouldn't do that, because I think it would yellow after a few weeks. Also if your tap water contains a lot of minerals it might get "chaulky" after a while, but distilled water shouldn't do that.

Actually, a lot of people use a bit of vegetable oil. It helps it to stick (make sure you get the bubbles out) and adds a bit of sheen. In the UK they actually have backgrounds that can go IN the tank, which are much more vivid.

Yes. you can definitely wet the whole thing. And yes, it will most definitely make the bakground more visible through the glass. I have done this with all of my tanks: 36 gal. - 10 gal. - 29 gal.
