I'm only 16 but all the time I get comments on how much older I am. I'm always mistaken for being a senior or already in college. I went to the bookstore one time and a man even came up to me and asked if I worked there. My question is not how do I look younger, but why do I appear to look older to people, people that don't even know me (meaning it's soley based on looks)? I'm a very self-conscious person and this bothers me, I'd just like to know why I age so fast?

Just for a bit more insight on how I look, I'm not fat by far, I'm actually on the very skinny side. Also, I have big blue eyes which I would think would make me look younger but meh who knows.

you maybe just have a more mature looking face than other 16 yr olds who sometimes can still carry round some childlike quality about them

maybe it's your hairstyle that is older than other teenagers or that you are tall perhaps?

i wouldn't necessarilly take it as a bad thing that you look more mature for your age - try not to be so self-conscious about it and be proud of who you are

good luck xx

Manner of dress, how "well" developed you are, eyeglasses, how mature you behave, hair style. I look more like one of the teachers in my yearbook than a student. The good news is that your age appearance levels out - I'm now 52 & am often mistaken for early 40's & most people think I'm younger than my two sisters, who are in fact younger than me.

i actually don't think it has anything to do with your looks. You probably are assumed to be older by your attitude and how you carry yourself. Everybody always thought I was older when I was growing up. I acted way more mature than most people my age and most of my friends were older than I was by a year or two.

same problem here, i m younger than you, but i too have the same problem, when i went on a vacation trip ppl thought i was like in highschool or older, and I felt really embarrased, my face doesn't make me look big, actually when ppl look at my face they think i m really young but when their eyes face my body, they think i m really old, bcoz i have a full figure, i feel really embarrassed or atleast used to, until i started excercising and eating healthier, and now i have lost 35lbs and i look and feel so much better, i have changed from ppl saying i was older to now looking younger than a 10 yr old, good lyck and i guess you should to start execising more and remeber to take in lots of water it really helped me!

It is mostly your physical appearance. In that I mean the way you carry yourself, the way you speak, the way you dress.

Had that problem MANY years ago. But, when I turned 30 I actually (FINALLY) got carded. I was so thrilled. Now, that I am older, when I do myself right, people do not believe how old I really am. So, go figure......

This happened to me too when I was younger. Don't worry- it doesn't have anything to do with aging quickly. My best suggestion is to love yourself the way you are, and not worry about what other people think!

Same problem. My sister is a year, thirteen months, older than me and everyone thinks I'm the oldest, and that I am, like, four years older then I really am.

It is probably your hair or makeup. If not, your age will catch up. Hormones will settle down and you won't always look older. Don't worry.
