In order to make that responsibility explicit, in 1798 President John Adams initiated the Logan Act, which forbids any American -- "without authority of the United States" -- to communicate with a foreign government with the intent of influencing that government's actions in any "disputes or controversies with the United States."

Very interesting facts. I would say yes, but I know it will never happen. Not only did she act against our President with this farce of a diplomatic excursion, she also was forced to correct herself when she lied about the message from Israel to Syria. The woman is a fool.

Nancy Pelosi is the Speaker of the House, not just a normal American Citizen. Congress has the authority to make foreign policy decisions. On top of which, there is plenty of precedent throughout the Bush Administration of the Speaker of the House talking with Foreign leaders. Speaker Hastart did it a number of times. And there is no reason for Nancy Pelosi to even be singled out on this instance since a month prior to her going to Syria and talking with its President three Republican Congressmen did the same thing, not to mention the number of Congressmen who were with her in Syria including Republicans. Nancy Pelosi did nothing wrong and all this debate is simply President Bush and other Republicans trying to make her look incompetent. All the experts in the World have said that isolating Iran and Syria is not working and that direct talks are the only way to resolve the problems between our Countries. Yet President Bush refuses to change his strategy for fear of looking as if he's admitting he was wrong. We need to talk with these Countries and if President Bush isn't going to do it than I'm glad Nancy Pelosi is.

Sure. While we're at it, let's get David Hobson (R), Keith Ellison (D), Tom Lantos (D), Henry Waxman (D), Louise Slaughter (D), and Nick Rahall (D), since they were all traveling with Pelosi.

We could also nab Robert Aderholt (R), Frank Wolf (R), and Darrell Issa(R), who have all made diplomatic trips to Syria within the past month.

Seriously, this is just silly. In over two-hundred years, only one person has ever been indicted under the Logan Act, and no one has ever gone to trial under it, much less been convicted. It's constitutionality has never been challenged, because it's never been used.

Luckily, we don't have to interpret. The U.S. State department has had a policy on this since 1975.
"The clear intent of this provision is to prohibit unauthorized persons from intervening in disputes between the United States and foreign governments. Nothing in section 953, however, would appear to restrict members of the Congress from engaging in discussions with foreign officials in pursuance of their legislative duties under the Constitution. "

Pelosi is in elementary words spewing the Democratic celebration line. that incorporates disarming u . s . a ., putting the UN on proper of factors of u . s . a ., knocking out free speech, disbanding the militia, taxing gasoline larger once you purchase it, and now once you take advantage of it also, destroying business organization, and saving the planet from global Warming, overlook about the Muslim terrorists(they're no threat in any respect), Turning u . s . a . over to the lazy, ignorant negative. yet then what do you assume from a celebration of freaks and weirdo's. it really is not sufficient that 370,000 Whites died struggling with to free the slaves, they're out to smash the Whites also. Nero fiddled at the same time as Rome burned, The Dems are truly burning u . s . a .. A Civil warfare is drawing close.

It is sort of difficult to make the arguement that the Speaker of the House does not have the "authority of the United States". The Congress is equal to the Executive & Judicial Branches.

I suppose it is relevant to your morals. Should Pelosi be impeached for visiting a country and showing dipolmacy? , or would it be more sensible for Bush to be impeached for the illegal invasion of Iraq under false data and presumptions.
