I save them when I get them, and I got one that is very light and has the same color that some of my real silver coins have. And for those of you that collect old coins, it has the same sound to it that the real silver coins have. I am just wondering if there were any special issues made in silver.

For the bicentennial year, 1976, the US government mint produced a new reverse design on three of our nation's coins. A colonial drummer boy replaced the eagle on the reverse of the Washington quarter. Independence Hall in Philadelphia replaced the eagle on the Kennedy half dollar. A Liberty Bell superimposed on the moon replaced the eagle/moon design on the Eisenhower dollar. Coins have the date 1776-1976 on them. These new designs were made just one year, in 1976.

They did make 1976-S proof and uncirculated Bicentennial quarters. They came in sets with the half and dollar. They all have an S mint mark for San Francisco. They weigh 5.75 grams. The outer layers are .800 silver and .200 copper bonded to an inner core of .209 silver and .791 copper. There is .0739 oz pure silver. A clad coin actually weighs less at 5.67 grams. You may have a coin that has been altered after it left the mint. People do some really strange things to coins. Hope this answer your question.
