IM is instant messaging. All the chat softwares like - msn chat, yahoo chat, google talk, mirc etc. are IMs i.e. you can chat in real time with anyone.
Email is also the same but the message that you sent sits in the inbox of the receiver till he/she reads it. This is same as offline messaging.

An IM means "Instant Messeging" where it's an instant reply back and forth between you and someone else through a service like AIM,MSN, Yahoo. Email is just where you send it and wait for the other persons reply back.

an IM (instant message) is another program and it is more of a conversation or really fast email. Email is through a web page (like yahoo) and it takes a bit longer because it is not instant.

IM is instant messaging where it automatically sends and the other person reads right away if they are online.
Email is you send an email and they can get it on or offline

IM means instant message, the message is delivered instantly. If the receiver is on the computer, you guys can chat. An e-mail will sit in the receiver's e-mail box until they check their e-mail.

IM is instant message. In this case you are seeing all the messages while you are on line. you chat while you are on line in a common messaging place
in case of e-mail you need not be online. you can chat but the message does not appear instantely. it goes via server.

IM is INSTANT messaging... AKA as fast as talking (can be)... Email is more for longer letters and isn't as fast. It also isn't "in the moment" like IM is.

An IM is were you are on-line talking to someone live, and an e-mail is more like a letter. It gets delivered then someone answers and sends you a response.
