Anyone else with me on this? I cannot stand watching the word of my all loving Father being tossed around as if any human has the right to judge another. We are all his children and he is our God, let us accept that no one will understand his will until we stand at his feet on judgement day, and NO ONE has the right to assume they can interpret the word of God exactly as he would. He is our savior and forgiver, our loving provider, and for the record: the Bible is a series of books commissioned by Constantine, written by fallible men on their accounts of the Lord Jesus on earth, take note of the NEW TESTAMENT! Can I get an amen?

Well Simpleman: At least your name suits you, simple-minded anyway.

Good point! Why is this in the LGBT section and the answers is simple really. The Misinterpreters like to come into my online sanctuary and talk a lot of ****, so I thought I'd just let everyone here on the LGBT portion of Yahoo! know that I agree with Jesus when he said to "Love thy neighbor as thy brother." It wasn't anywhere along the lines of "Beat down the queers, love the other neighbors."

Classical Jewish texts do not specifically indicate that God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah because the inhabitants were homosexual, or sexually deviant from what was recorded as God's law of natural order, but rather, they were destroyed because the inhabitants were generally morally depraved and uncompromisingly greedy. Though homosexual acts were an abomination, the people of Sodom and Gomorrah were guilty of many other sins as well. Rabbinic writings affirm that the primary crimes of the Sodomites were terrible and repeated economic crimes, both against each other and outsiders[citation needed].

A rabbinic tradition, described in the Mishnah, postulates that the sin of Sodom was related to property: Sodomites believed that "what is mine is mine, and what is yours is yours" (Abot), which is interpreted as a lack of compassion. Another rabbinic tradition is that these two wealthy cities treated visitors in a sadistic fashion.

One example is the story of the "bed" that guests to Sodom were forced to sleep in: if they were too short they were stretched to fit it, and if they were too tall, they were cut up.(compare Procrustes.)

The Talmud also recounts the incident of a young girl (some sources say it was a daughter of Lot) who gave some bread to a poor man who had entered the city. When the townspeople discovered her act of kindness, they smeared her body with honey and hung her from the city wall until she was stung to death by bees. (Sanhedrin 109a) It is this gruesome event (and her scream, in particular), the Talmud concludes, that are alluded to in the verse that heralds the city’s destruction: "So Hashem said, 'Because the outcry of Sodom and Gomorrah has become great, and because their sin has been very grave, I will descend and see...'" (Genesis 18:20-21.)

AMEN! PREACH IT TO THE CHOIR SISTER!

Leviticus 18:22 "You will not have intercourse with a man as you would with a woman. This is a hateful thing (abomination)." NJB
Leviticus 20:13 "The man who has intercourse with a man in the same way as with a woman: they have done a hateful thing (abomination) together; they will be put to death..." NJB

Okay, my logic is...if these verses are held as true & as moral guidelines pertaining to homosexual activity...what about the other things in the Holiness Code that are also abominations?
i'm not listing verses but here are some other prohibitions (some punishable by death) from Leviticus:
Tattoos
Round Hair Cuts (this would have been bad in the '70's & '80's!)
Eating Pork or Shellfish (no bacon or shrimp!)
Working on the Sabbath
Planting fields with more than one kind of seed
Wearing clothing of mixed fabrics (no cotton/wool blends!)

The Holiness Code is from about 3,000 years ago. In Hebrew, abominations, (TO'EBAH), are activities that people find to be offensive. To the Jews, an abomination was not a law...it was NOT something evil like murder which was forbidden by the Ten Commandments. A Holiness Code is a list of behaviors that people of a certain faith, at a certain time, & at a certain place find to be tasteless or offensive. It was primarily used to set the Israelite priests over & against other existing cultures. And of course, among the prohibitions listed, the Jews considered homosexual (read non-Jewish) behavior to be also displeasing to God.

Sooo.....my question is...How are you picking & choosing which ones to follow? Do you have a tattoo? Do you eat bacon or shrimp? Have checked the material of your clothing lately? And if someone were to say that our "understanding" of tattoos & pork & whatnot has changed over the millenia in these cases, would it also not be possible to change our understanding of homosexuals? Both Jesus & St. Paul have made it clear that the Holiness Codes of Leviticus are not for Christian believers...
Yes, I have posted this elsewhere & sorry it is so long, but it pretty much sums up what I have researched...Thanks greenbuddha03!

The Law of the Old Testament was intended for the new nation of Israel has they entered Canaan. They were surrounded by people groups that did not worship God so it says in Deuteronomy 4:38 and 7:1 that He drove out most of the pagans. But if anyone was to be found living in sin, the Israelite community must purify itself by executing any unrighteousness. For the case of "Bible thumpers", those ladies probably meant well but it is trivial of them to read from Deuteronomy when there are better passages to explain God's forgiveness and Christ Jesus' sacrifice for all sinners, me and you included.

I would rather live my life as if there is a god and find out when I die that there isn't, than to live my life as if there is no god and find out there is when i do die. And as far as Sodom and Gomorrah are concerned they were destroyed in part because of being gay among other things. when the 2 angels came to see Lot, men of the town came and asked lot to throw them out that they may know them. to which lot replied, I will not send out these men, will you accept my daughters as they have not yet known a man! to which the men of the village replied no we want to know the men! Genesis 19 verse 8

Why don't you take this advice

And come not near to the unlawful sexual intercourse. Verily, it is a Fâhishah [i.e. anything that transgresses its limits (a great sin)], and an evil way (that leads one to Hell unless God forgives him). (Al-Isra 17:32)

Islamic Sexuality

God has taught us through his final revelation that sex is an important part of marriage. It is about sharing a pleasure which is meant to strengthen the couple's relationship through a physical expression of their love. It is also the gift of God in which they may share equally in the creation of a child

The bible is a fairy tale created by the Roman Catholic Church to control the masses. The old testement is a myth about the Jewish people. All of it is fantasy. Start living in reality, please. There is no god, and no life after death; use your time here wisely and productively.
