I own a 1999 T reg Ford Focus 1.8 petrol and wondered if anyone knows how long the timing belt idler pulley should last.

Hi

If its the plastic one then I would replace it when you replace the belt.

To be honest, every belt change for me is a whole kit, not just the belt, and if the belt has to come off for whatever reason, unless its younger than 2 years old, then I insist on a belt and tensioner kit.

Its not a good idea to retension an old belt.

the're plastic and i belive the same as vauxhall and dawoo use. the offered g'n tee was well under 12 months or 12000 miles to avoid claims. if you've just bought the vehicle fit a gates belt kit.

Just replace it when you replace the belt and you should be OK.

120,000 miles if its like the Zetec in most other cars. I think that may be a little long, I'd probably replace it around 100,000 miles.

cam belt & all bearings (tentioner) is 100000 miles or ten years
