You amend your return on a form 1040X and mail it in. The easiest way to do the 1040X is to fill out a corrected return, then lay that and the original side by side when you do the 1040X.

If you had someone prepare your original return, it might be a good idea to go back and have them do the amended also. There will be an additional charge, though, unless what you're correcting is their mistake.
