First you have to check if it's AGP or PCI-Express. If you bought this PC recently, it's most likely PCI-Express, therefore, any PCI-E card should do. For the higher end cards such as the geforce 8800 and ATI x1900 series, you will need a more powerful power supply to compensate for the cards needed power.

Why? Why? Why? After you spend all that money you still have an eMachine which was probably purchased because of its cheaper price. So I have to question the purpose of your wanting to upgrade graphics card.
I suspect that after your having done so, you will be back asking how to make your upgraded graphics eMachine perform like a true gaming machine. Won't happen......
Good Luck

There isn't anything you should do to your e machine while it still has the original motherboard. The motherboard will go bad in 3 to 4 years from purchase. You should get a replacement motherboard first and then you can look into upgrades. You are wasting money till then.

In general as stated below you need to make sure the slot is the same AGP,PCI-Express, or PCI then you need to make sure on newer PCI-Express cards that you have an ample power supply I would recommend 500W or more. If your motherboard supports dual crossfire or SLI cards you may even need a bigger power supply. You can find great deals on video cards at www.gamegiants.net I have provided a link below:

Before you begin shopping for a card, find out what slot your mobo has for Vid Cards, its either PCIe(newer) or AGP(older).
Once you have that info you can look for cards that fit into your Mobo
