I have a 1997 Toyota Camry LE with 120,000 miles and recently when I step on the gas pedal it putts and takes a while to get up to speed. Also, when it's idling it sounds like the car is going to die. I don't know if I need a fuel filter or a tune up. I have not had a tune up since I got the car last year and I don't know when the previous owner last got one, I have put on about 20,000 miles since. I have limited funds and I'm hoping whatever it is doesn't cost too much. Please help!

Limited funds?
Change the spark plugs first.

Next weeks, change the oil.

Sounds like you are missing a cylinder or two to me.. Plugs, plug wires and cap (or coil pack on some cars) probably is a good idea.. You are looking at about 50$ if you do it yourself or have a friend do it.. It's a very simple job but shops change your first kid to do it..

Every car needs regular maintenence and this is all part of it.. It wouldn't hurt to change the fuel filters too... good luck

Changing fuel filter, air filter, and spark plugs might help. However you can spend a lot of money and not fix the problem. Your best bet is to take it to someone you know and trust.

Fuel filter, air cleaner and spark plugs should help, but possible weak fuel pump.
