The retention time of CO2 in the atmosphere is a controversial subject. Computer models suggest that it is somewhere between 80 and 200 years. The small amount of experimental evidence indicates that it is about 15 years. I have seen no scientific source that claims that it is 1000 years. This is a typical example of how the 'man made, catastrophe soon' lobby uses gross exaggeration as a way to railroad the general population (who do not have access to scientific data) into accepting their doctrine. As for destroying the planet? this is hysterical nonsense. The planet has been both much hotter and much colder than it is at present, without any danger of being destroyed During the Eocene, starting about 55 million year ago, there were temperate forests as far as the poles, and tropical forests as far as 45 degrees. This was also the time when the first modern mammals appeared. A warmer climate is more beneficial to life than a colder climate

It's possible. But I wouldn't bet on it. A lot of it is tied up in what's *causing* global warming. Clearly (since the other planets in the Solar System are also undergoing a warming trend) i'ts not all down to pollution, no matter what Al ('I invented the Internet') Gore has to say. But how much of it is out of our hands, and how much warmer it may get, is pretty much open to speculation. Thanks for that go to a system which controls research by controlling the money available for research. And it you're researching anything that doesn't correspond to the current, 'Politically Correct', line of thinking (i.e. that 'Global Warming' is caused totally by our pollution of the environment) you won't have any funding to carry on research into any other possible contributors to the problem.

it is hard to tell, with the current weather abnormalities it is very possible, but it might also be possible that it isnt global warming parsei, many scientists belive that the sun is entering into its cycle early causing everything in the solar system to heat up, if this is the case, we verry well may have another ice age withen the next 400 years, rather than the predicted 1500 years, but who knows. everything may also be funky due the the "el nino" we are in... weather is one thing we as a species cannot truely predict.

the weather and earth has already been messed up. 2006 was one of the warmest years on record. Temperatures are going to keep rising if we dont try and stop it.
i think things will keep getting worse and worse, especially with the weather. there have been some really weird weather patterns in goergia (80 degrees, 50 degrees, raning, 50 degrees, 70 degrees) and polar bears have been added to the endangered list because the ice caps are melting!

The answer is simple. Look what man has done to the earth so far, is it that far fetched we are capable of ruining the earth? Watch al gores video "an inconveinent truth" It explains extremely well what is happening and why and why we are responsible. Not a single peice of data he uses is in any dispute with scientists. Also even greater evidence is that the bible says that man would ruin the earth among other prophesies and every single one of them are coming true! Please dont just believe what anyone tells you including me, check it out for yourself and prove it for yourself ok?

ONCE AGAIN....
Global Warming MEANS "World Wide Warming!" It is ONLY A Political Term = NOT based in Real Science!
The EARTH is covered by "Three Quarters WATER!" Basic Science, it takes ONE-Btu to raise One Cubic Centimeter ONE Degree Centigrade!
HOW many "Gazillion Cubic Centimeters are there ONLY on the Surface of Planet Earth COVERED by 3/4 Water?"
HOW many Btu's would it take TO RAISE THE SURFACE TEMPERATURE ONE DEGREE?
DO THE MATH!
And, were are the Million TEMPERATURE MEASURING SITES on the Many Oceans THAT TELL US THAT THE OCEAN TEMPERATURES ARE RISING? Not!
Oh yes, POLAR temperatures have varied LESS Than one degree in the past 100-Years. Noticed I said VARIED, = NOT RISEN!
Thanks, RR

Seeing as how it took a century to warm the earth one degree, ten years is much too short a time for anything to happen.

hard to say if it'll have disastrous effects or not since no one who knows what is really happening will speak openly. the entire solar system is getting hotter and we don't know if this is part of the natural cycle of our sun or if it is something bigger.

Yesssssssss! The way the weather is dramatically changing, is so extreme, is not a good sign. We can also see the effects in wildlife. It all seems to be going the wrong way.
