St John's is not a particularly good university. It is not very selective. The average SAT score is only about 1000. Only about 14% of its students were in the top 10% of their High School classes. US News ranks it as a third tier university -- but it is likely that it is near the bottom of the third tier.
It has several locations because its main campus is in an inconvenient spot -- and they want to attract part time students who are who are working in Manhattan.
Its main campus is one of the ugliest campuses that I have ever seen.
If you want a Catholic University in New York, Fordham is a much better choice. If you want some university in the NYC area -- then there are dozens of better choices.
If you want to go to medical school, you should go to the best undergraduate school possible. I doubt that SJU fits that description.

I went to St. John's, and it served me well. There are excellent Pharmacy programs, but the pre-med programs are decent. I wasn't pre-med, but there was a full lab (St. Augustine Hall on the Queens campus) and internships, and my pre-med friends said it was a good program.
It's not the best school in New York, by far, but it's not a bad school.
There are several campuses: The main campus, with dorming, is in Queens. The Manhattan and Staten Island campuses are more like satellites, for commuters. The Rome campus is for studying abroad, and it works to offset the costs. The Oaklawn(?) campus, is suitable, but if I remember correctly, it was connected to a seminary, and I believe was mainly for theological studies. I could be wrong about that though.
The Queens campus is the main site.
