Just answered a question about the nit picking between UK and US postings (colour/color).
What about people using other non correct spellings such as cus, wiv etc. I for one "av trble redin em" so can we all agree to try to spell complete proper words? Or is i nit picn?

Totally on your side. Spell everything out. This is not a telephone for texting.

Got to keep the standards UP. No, I am not being sarcastic. When standards lower, it gives the next 'level to which you have advanced (regresseed?)' a chance to become later an even lower standard. The slippery slope figure of speech.

Spell checker has its value, but read stuff aloud for better catching of errors.

This is your old 11th grade teacher talking. . .

Who is Al_ide calling a colonial cousin? I agree that spelling a word in full helps clear up the meaning of the question. I have a larger comprehension problem with people using non-standard grammar or even no grammar at all. My particular group of colonials flip both way on the spellings and don't even know we are doing it.

Text speak should be left to texters. Any other written communication should be spelled out completely such that it is understood by the recipient. That's the point of writing, isn't it? To be understood?

Why do we stress on the the terrific option mutually as Britain drives on the left? espresso vs. Tea. We merely like being distinctive. it may additionally be a count of accessory. Or the undeniable fact that spelling become a count of opinion for many of years until eventually somebody invented to dictionary.

Nitpicking over the quaint misspellings of our colonial cousins is one thing, but it really doesn't do to mock the afflicted who really couldn't beat a 5 year-old in a spelling bee.

You're definitely not nitpicking, but you'll never get everyone to agree to try to spell words properly. People are lazy, they're rushing to be the first to answer, and they think it's cute. Not much you can do.
