i think it is an binary addition.
in this binary addition u have only 2 numbers, one & zero.
so u get by adding 1 to 1 you get 10. here 0 is the answer & one is the carry.
if u convert it into decimal number,

1*(2^1)+ 0*(2^0)

=> 2+ 0

=>2 (which is decimal equivalent of binary number 10)

binary system....
decimal 1=1
decimal 2=10
therefore in decimal 1+1 = 2
in binary 1+1 =10

if everything is represented in binary format

10 is not "ten" but... "one zero", or 1*2^1+0*2^0 = 2
