Here are some questions that I would ask:

- What type of training did astronauts go through to prepare for a lunar landing? How did the training in 1969 differ from today's training?
- Were there any situations that you trained for or anticipated that were based on misconceptions about the moon and lunar travel? For example, did you train for a situation where the lunar surface was too soft to land on or step on?
- How did the experience of seeing the earth from space affect you? I've heard that it could be a very spiritual experience for some people.
- Did anything happen during the trip that wasn't reported by the media?
- Would you go again?

Having read a great deal about the space race and Apollo in particular, and having read several books on the subject written by astronauts, I would avoid at all costs questions like 'how did it feel stepping onto the Moon.' It's an obvious question but it is also hopelessly vague. Pete Conrad always used to answer that question with 'greatn thanks,' because that was the only answer he could give.

I'd concentrate on spaceific details like the handling of the LM, the nature of the surface, the smell of lunar rock, and how tiresome the quarantine period when they got home was.

I'd also ask him about his work before NASA, piloting the X-15 rocket plane, and after, with some emphasis on how hard he found it adjusting to always being the first man on the Moon.
