I plan on going out to buy a new battery today, but will my alarm system reset if I change out the battery? If it matters it's a Viper system, but I don't know what model exactly.

I had my lights on but I had just parked. I went out to the local blockbuster then to Walgreen's because one of my friends wanted to get something and I turned off the car while he went in. I think my lights were on, but it wasn't for more than a few minutes that he was in there.

Take your car to Kragen/Checker/Shucks (depending on where you live - same store) and they'll check your charging system free. May be your battery, may be your alternator, no telling without checking it out. About your alarm, one answer told of a plug for your lighter. It's called a "Keep Alive" device, and you can build one yourself. It is very easy. You can buy a cig lighter plug at any Radio Shack, Fry's, most auto parts stores. Wire it up to a plain old 9v battery (all you codes and things only need about 3v - 5v to keep the memory chip active, so you don't need 12v). Plug that in while you change the battery and you should be golden. If you are worried about the 9v battery because you have an excessive amound of electronics in your car that need the memory saved or whatever, maybe it will take you a long time to do it or what not, then how you would wire up the plug to the 9v (positive to positive, negative to negative), wire it the same to another car's battery (for this, you will need extra wire, and lots of it!), but it will work just the same.

Get the Battery checked from a authorized Battery broker of the same make.If the battery is extra effective than 3 years previous this would take place. If the battery isn't ok then replace the same. 2d reason would be Battery charging isn't ok,seen that the motor vehicle isn't used basically at night in in simple terms crowded townpersistent with all lights and contraptions(Radio,CD participant and so on.) used in any respect situations. that's the considerable clarification for battery getting discharged in spite of if battery is okay. If answer to the two above factors is adverse then get the wiring checked from a authorized mechanic.Rats have a reliable habit of chewing the cables and is the severe reason at many places.

A good battery should run the headlights for 4 to 6 hours. The alarm has already reset if the battery died. Just make sure to measure the battery voltage when you have the engine running to make sure the alternator is working. It should be 13.6 to 15 volts.

alarm systoms reset them selves
if the car is upset by a battery change just leave the car alone and after 5 minutes all it takes is to unlock the car with the key and all will be fine
