Hi Dharma,
We have deer that pass through our yard frequently. A few weeks ago a deer was looking through my basement window no more than 15 feet from where I sit at my computer, his nose was just a few inches from the glass (the basement on that side of the house is at ground level with a big picture window).
The only wild animal that scares me up close is a Grizzly bear, we've been very close while in the car, but never on a trail.
The closest encounter I've had with a deer was on the "Going to the sun road" in Glacier National Park in Montana. The deer there were not afraid of humans and would walk right up to you to take an apple from your hand.
A few hiking trails in the mountains here have Chipmunks and Whiskey Jacks (Grey Jay) that are also very people friendly, the birds fly right up to your outstretched hand to take a peanut, and the chipmunks take peanuts from your hand too.
It's a great feeling to have a wild animal put that much trust in you.

Some people might give you some stick for this question. Perhaps because they think it is a bit namby pamby. I was actually happy to read it after some of the hate stuff that I've seen in the last half hour.
I don't get the opportunity so much to enjoy the joys of nature as I did back in Australia, but the word that comes to mind when I can, and when the elements are kind, is 'wistful'.
Keep asking your questions. They provide a pleasant relief.

It truly is a beautiful moment and I have experienced wildlife up close as they have been in our yard. The older deer have gotten use to us living here so they don't seem afraid, but they don't let us get to close. We have a pheasant too, that comes into the yard. I love living in the country where I can experience this.

Behind my house, it's just woods. We have a lot of bunny rabbits back in there and opossums and occassionally a skunk or a deer.
The only one I fear is the skunk.
The rest I'm just like "Oh honey come look" and if it's a deer he usually starts wishing he had his gun.

I walked out on my porch yesterday morning. A woodpecker with red feathers on top of his head, flew over to the tree in our yard and began looking for insects, tap! tap! tap!
I was in awe....I stood there watching him for a very long time. First of all because he was beautiful, and I had never seen one in person before. Second, we live in the middle of town, and there isn't "a lot" of wildlife here.

Well, if I saw a deer, I'd probably think "mmmm, venison. I bet that animal would taste just swell once it was hacked up and cooked".

So far, I haven't had a close up encounter with wildlife, at least not close enough to where the animal scares me.

They usually scurry away, if not, I try to slowly get my camera out and get a picture. . .
It is fun taking walks in the wood around my home. . .
