I think we alll should do our part to help STOP it & really don't think a lot of people are taking it seriously if really interested watch a dvd by Al Gore called An inconvenient truth or you could also read the book it really explains a lot & makes you wanna take a stand I try & do my part we recycle etc.

Yes, it *is* a heated issue. But it's got far too many political and economic overtones to probably ever be treated in a truly scientific fashion.

The fact is that the Earth is warming up. But so are all of the other planets. The question of how much of the Earths warming is due to our pollution of the environment is still a very open issue, no matter *what* Al ('I invented the internet') Gore says about it. His interests are strictly economic.

Core sample at Lake vostok ahow a series of cooling and warming trends. These trends covers large scales of time from today they go back 100,000years, 225,000years, and 325,000years.

We are on the peak of a global event that has been occuring for EONs before humans evolved.

The wordl does not work in 50 year trends it woks in 500,000 year trends. 250mil years trends.

To assume that we controll these things is arrogance in the utmost.

The temperature is rising because it did 125,000 year ago. It will go down to almost ice age conditions in 1000 to 5000 years. Nearsited scientists will blame that one alll the fixes we tried to make to global warming.

The world is a much bigger place than most of us imagine. Our impact is minor to the dinosanrs of the late Jurasic, Evolution of flowering plants. relax.. chicken little the sky is not falling.

Global Warming? Won't stop until a catastrophe is upon us. Humans are simply incapable of changing until there is a need to change. Companies are far too dependent energy sources producing greenhouse gases and our technology is still inadaquete to provide complete independence from these energy sources. The levels of CO2 in the atmosphere are already scary and I'm sure nature has already set in motion a disaster to rebalance herself. I know I sound overly pessimistic, but really has anything changed in the past 50 years? Have CO2 emissions worldwide reduced? Nope, they have only increased, and now that China and India are demanding more energy, we will only see it increase further. I just pray to god that the correction will be minor and no great harm is done to the human race.

It's real and mostly caused by us. Three reasons, with solid support, most important first.

There's an overwhelming amount of peer reviewed scientific data that says that. Short and long summaries.

Science is quite good about exposing bad science or hoaxes:

http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~dst/ATG/polywater.html

There's a large number of people who agree that it is, who are not liberals, environmentalists, stupid, or conceivably part of a "conspiracy". Just three examples of many:

"Global warming is real, now, and it must be addressed."

Lee Scott, CEO, Wal-Mart

"Our nation has both an obligation and self-interest in facing head-on the serious environmental, economic and national security threat posed by global warming."

Senator John McCain, Republican, Arizona

“DuPont believes that action is warranted, not further debate."

Charles O. Holliday, Jr., CEO, DuPont

There's a lot less controversy about this is the real world than there is on Yahoo answers:

And vastly less controversy in the scientific community than you might guess from the few skeptics talked about here:

I simply do not believe that Global warming is something we as human beings are causing, we might be assisting in the process of melting ice bergs at a faster pace but I believe that we are not the cause of it.

Many people are saying that global warming will cause weather conditions to change drastically for the worse in the future and make things unbearable for human beings. It will make it hard for the human race to survive with extremely hot / cold weather. But who is to say that what we are actually living through right - now, meaning temperatures that we are able to withstand is NOT the norm?

Scientist say that years ago meteorites cause a drastic change in temperature which caused the earth to freeze over, thus the disappearing of dinosaurs, and formation of glaciers, etc. At that point in time, the earth's temperature must have been extremely hot and freezing over the earth probably brought down the atmosphere's temperature making it possible for us humans to survive.

So now if these conditions are changing (disappearing / melting glaciers) could it be possible that the earth is just now returning to its original state? Maybe this was just a period made possible for us human beings to multiply, progress and continue our race, maybe our time is almost up and we must now seek a way to survive in the earth's original condition or find another planet to live on ......

Along with my theory, we need to think of other things such as
having animals as we know them today to maybe disappear completely and perhaps evolution will bring about other animals able to withstand such conditions. Will our planet produce other type of food? Will other illnesses come about? Especially with the melting of glaciers, will other diseases be let loose that have been contained for years and maybe unknown to mankind?

This conversation is way too deep.....

I think its all a fake so the MPs get votes by saying they are going to help global warming when really they don't care. I seen a program on the telly about it so its got to be true.

Kind of hoping that global warming continues a bit. That way the hurricanes will wipe out the nutcakes and Canada will become a tropical paradise.

ONCE AGAIN....

Global Warming MEANS "World Wide Warming!" It is ONLY A Political Term = NOT based in Real Science!

The EARTH is covered by "Three Quarters WATER!" Basic Science, it takes ONE-Btu to raise One Cubic Centimeter ONE Degree Centigrade!

HOW many "Gazillion Cubic Centimeters are there ONLY on the Surface of Planet Earth COVERED by 3/4 Water?"

HOW many Btu's would it take TO RAISE THE SURFACE TEMPERATURE ONE DEGREE?

DO THE MATH!

And, were are the Million TEMPERATURE MEASURING SITES on the Many Oceans THAT TELL US THAT THE OCEAN TEMPERATURES ARE RISING? Not!

Oh yes, POLAR temperatures have varied LESS Than one degree in the past 100-Years. Noticed I said VARIED, = NOT RISEN!

Thanks, RR
