You wrote "a map has a scale factor of 1:50 000 "

6cm x 50000 = 300,000 cm

If the scale is 1:50 which I think you are trying to say.

Then it is:

6cm X 50= 300 cm only.

On the map thing are reduce to fit the area of a piece of paper, so it is as rule actual size is much larger, here 1 cm on the map is equal to 50 cm on the actual land or ground.

Some time they will have a blow out from the map say map will be at 1:50, but a city detail is blown out at 1:5 or any good scale that can show the details of various major streets.

Scale: 6 cm on map would equal 3 km on ground.

Here is why:

When you see a scale of 1:50 000 or what ever number is used, it all has the same meaning. One unit on the map is the same as 50 000 of those unit in the real world. So, one cm on the map would equal 50 000 cm on the ground. One mm on the map would equal 50 000 am on the ground. One paper clip length on the map would be 50 000 of those same paper clips (back to back) on the ground.

In your case we are talking cm. 1cm on the map is 50 000 cm on the ground. which means that 6 cm on the map must be 6 x 50 000 on the real ground or 300 000 cm.

All we have to do now is change the 300 000 cm to km which is 3 km.

Let x cm be the actual distance
Map is made proportionate to the scale of the actual place

1: 50000= 6:x

So x =6 * 50000
=300000 cm
=3000 m
=3 km

Each unit on the map represents 50000 units on the ground.

50000 * 6 cm

= 300000 cm
= 3000 m
= 3 km

if you have a scale of 1:50000 it means that to 1 cm on the map there is a real distance of 50 000cm. so for 6 cm the real distance is of 6*500000 cm = 300 000cm =3 km

1 unit = 50000 units
Is the unit is 1 cm = 50000 cm ?
Then 6 cm = 6 × 50000 cm = 300000 cm = 3000 m = 3 km
