Every so often I hear people on bikes going by making lots of noise with their engines. It's obvious they're disturbing people, yet they do it anyway. I'd like to know what the enjoyment is, especially from those of you who own bikes and rev your engines up and down streets.

Believe it or not, I'm not really complaining. I'm just curious, as I don't ride motorbikes so I don't really get why someone would wanna just make noise with one.

I'll tell you why I rev my engine at a stop. Look at my avatar. I ride an H-D FXDWG. It's air cooled. When I'm moving, I'm cooling with air. When I'm stopped, only the transfer of oil cools my motor. When I rev the engine, I get the oil moving faster, which helps in cooling.

We are not all assholes, but we know our bike. Sometimes we need to do something that seems strange to people that don't ride. Don't sweat it. We ain't all shitpots!

Taking off from a dead stop, I blip the throttle a bit to get the revs up before letting out the clutch.
Also, depending on speed and gear I'm in, when down shifting, I'll blip it a little to let it go into the lower gear easier.

When riding an older bike they "load up" start to run to rich and when u rev the engine i lean the engine out back to its stoychametric air fue ratio of 14.7-1.The bike runs best and also gets the best gas milege at this ratio.

Some are pretty loud for sure. I think that loudness does not always equal noise. A loud 2 cycle engine is torture to my ears (like rap music), but a moderately loud Harley is beautiful sounding, especially on a mountain road late at night.
Louder pipes do add a margin of safety in traffic as well, a lot of drivers that do not see real well can still hear. But that is a minor point.
And there is the power thing as well, cannot deny it. Ego booster and attention grabber. Bikers are human too, even though some of us barely look it.

Bikers rev their engines for lots of different reasons.
1) Ego
2) Because they have a new exhaust system
3) Mating call
4) Penile enhancement

Actual good reasons for revving engine
1) Blipping the throttle before downshifting to match engine speed to gear selection
2) Blipping throttle when taking off to avoid stalling the engine.

Wrong Queston. The problem isn't revving, which is sometimes neccessary, but redoing the muffler for that"beautiful sound" done only by morons who have to prove they are "men"( and therefore prove they aren't)

They do it for the same reason low riders blast loud jungle music, or Import car drivers have those obnoxious mufflers. They just like it.

They need to rev their engines on their bikes because if not they will stall out. Bikse have clutches and if they dont stay on the gas a little it will stall out.

Look over and ask the other rider if he thinks his bike is going to die if he doesn't rev it.
