I mean there have been rumors but they weren't true. They used to say that Jimmy Page and JPJ were responsible for the death of John Bonham. It wasn't true, I think people are just mad because they cannot measure up to them. They're jealous because they could never compose or or even think of the songs LZ wrote. How many people think LZ ripped off other bands by stealing their songs??

I agree with SusanDiane411. A lot of musicians use the old Blues classics and redo them. Led did them in such a unique way it would be hard to compare them.

First off, Led Zeppelin is one of my favorite bands of all time. Having said that, it could be argued that they actually ripped off blues singers rather than actual bands. " "Whole Lotta Love" is based almost note for note on the Muddy Water's "You Need Love" amd "You Shook Me" is the exact same song as Muddy Water's. "Gallows Pole" was orignally done by Leadbelly and "When The Levee Breaks" is an old blues song from the '30's by Memphis Minnie. That's just several examples.

However Led Zeppelin did a hell of a job covering these songs. In fact, I think heavy metal bands that came after LZ ripped them off!

I don't think that they ripped off any songs.

BUT...
There are huge similarities in Bonham's drum solos to those of Dannie Richmond (played with Charles Mingus). I don't think he ripped him off, but I do think he listened to him growing up. Listen to some songs on the album The Great Concert of Charles Mingus and you might hear how he inspired Bonham (not in rhythm, just solos).

I respect LZ as a totally original band with great musicians. Bonham's rhythm playing is the most original and easily recognizable of any rock drummer.

Maybe. I'm not saying Zeppelin did or didn't but other artists might have influenced Zeppelin and allow him to create the kind of music that he created. That said, how about the music today, there's some bands who are "ripping off" or getting influenced by other bands in terms of sound, style, etc...

Not likely since that era and time there wasnt too many out there like them. They were revolutionary. Bonham had a acid dropping problem and thats it.

Definitely not. I still find them original after all these years. I can't imagine how original they felt in their day!

Influenced by previous artists? Absolutely! But original in their own right? Definitely.
