Chuckn, you may believe that those were the good old days.
But in reality those so called days were the equivalent of the holocaust. while you may take it as a joke, it is quite a serious matter. People like you are what we call racist. Yes you are living and thriving here in the world. But when judgement day is here, the quick and the dead will be judged. only God knows what is in the hearts of men. you may fool yourself into thinking that no one will pay for the suffering of my peoples. if you don't have anything intelligent to contribute to society shut the f up. one thing for sure until you love everyone in the world and admit to yourself and God that you would not want to be treated so inhumanely, there may be hope yet still for you. just don't die right now you have a long way to go. someday soon tragedy will strike you and yours. i hope you think about this answer you served up in yahoo when it happens. hey chuckn, what about the va tech massacre? what do you have to say about that? will you look back 10 yrs from now and say that was a good ole day?

We can only reminisce over the good old days now. Laws have changed, you have to treat a black like he's human now in the USA. You should check into the ERA (Equal Rights Amendment) that is trying to be added to our Constitution. This states that women are equal, can you believe that!
Our police and jail system no longer allows the abuse you mentioned.
Although old habits die hard, it has stopped for the most part. You'll still hear of the occasional convict tell of electrical shocks or hose beatings of the feet bottoms, but these wild claims are hardly ever proven.

Is the torture of black people supported by the U.S. Government still going on? Absolutely not.
Do I consider the things that sometimes go on in jails and police stations a form of torture?
Yes, I do. Whether it happens to black people or white people -- however I don't think it's directed strictly at African Americans . I think it happens to people of all sexes and races in that type of situation.
No human being (who incarcerted or in custody and is at the complete mercy of another human being) should have to endure that, regardless of his/her color/religion/beliefs.
This is the United States of America -- We're definitely capable of better than that.

The torture is not making people responsible when you can intervene; if you are a prison guard, the only thing standing in the way between them and freedom is you; until you walk one day in the shoes of someone else.... ; they are in prison b/c they are hard core; it doesn't happen just once to land in jail ; there are countless times, probation, fine, repeat offenders; you can't protect everyone at all times, you do the best that you can with what you have; short of solitary confinement and then you would call that abuse. Everyone is responsible for your own behavior, quit the woe is me sad stories , keep your nose out of trouble; don't be where you shouldn't be ie. out on the streets at 3 in the morning ; volunteer, take a job; many of our ancestors came here and families were split and they took any job that they could, my family for one; they didn't resort to drugs, crime etc; they lived poor and worked worked worked for a better life; no one handed them gifts, no social services, my great grandmother died at home giving birth; all the help isn't helping until you want to help yourself by living a good life to stay out of the one place you don't want to go - jail ; you do the crime, you do the time.

Looking at one comment I'm amazed anyone with any intelligence can have a comparison between the Holocaust and the treatment of blacks in this country. Absurd!
I would be interested in knowing where the questioner got her facts. It has been a long time since blacks have been treated poorly, especially actions condoned by the government. Today, if anything, they are treated better than anyone else.

Tortured is a rather harsh word. When I think of tortue, I think of someone pulling out my toe nails because I'm black.
I believe there are double standards in this country. Yes - I believe there is still racial tension in this country. Yes - I think a young girl in Texas getting 7 years in jail for pushing a white hall monitor is due to racial tension (not torture), and discrimination. Especially when the same judge, and court system gave a probation sentence to a much older drunken white teen boy who struck and killed a (black) grandmother and her small grandchild while they crossed the street; and a white teenage girl who purposely set her parents house on fire (burned it to the ground).
You give probation to white teen drunk drivers and arsenist; but a young black teen girl gets 7 years in prison for "pushing" a school employee??? You'd think we were in the middle east with this punishment, but no precious whites are only temporarily troubled and need second chances; but black kid are nothing but trouble and should be locked up.
Now isn't this still Crazy!

It wouldn't surprise me if it still goes on. Torture is torture no matter what the
format or who's doing it. I'd like to see the tables turned on those that practice it
and see how they like it.
