No, turtles only can breath air. All aquatic turtles can hold their breathe for a long period of time. While they hibernate, they will slow their heart rate down so much that they do not need to breath in the general sense. They can passively pass enough oxygen through the mud at the bottom of ponds and lakes.

They hold their breath, and do not breathe under water. They don't have gills, and breathe air like all mammals, birds, and reptiles. They aoften surface to breathe with just their little nostrils on the end of their snouts showing, its really cool. I see my RES do it all the time.

Turtles actually breathe underwater just like you or I do. Sometimes as a result, they blow bubbles from their mouth underwater. They can also breathe above water too.

when they do need 2 breath, they may poke their snouts up out of the water or they will come up on the surface 4 a while.
