Does anyone know any unique rituals or rites of passage of other cultures or a relgion that people are unfamiliar with? I have a project and I'm stumped. Heres what it is in her words:

Research and write about a ritual (or rite of passage) in another culture. The topic needs to be something other than what we already know. Stay away from Catholic rituals or anything else common to the US. (Sweet 16, graduation, marriage) We are familiar with these traditions.

Two traditions that I found interesting in the Navajo Indian culture of the Southwest-When a woman gets married, the father of the bride gives one of his cows as a gift for the wedding reception to feed the guests. They dig at least a four or five foot hole in the ground and cover it with branches, and pine needles and roast it in the ground overnight or for at least twenty four hours whole. Legs and all. Then it is butchered by all the men at the wedding during the reception.

Also, when a Navajo girl gets her period, all of the women in the tribe throw a celebration-no men invited. It celebrates her passage from girl to womanhood.

Do a Google search for "rites of passage" along with a country name to see what you can discover. For example:

rites of passage, India
rites of passage, Africa
rites of passage, Brazil

When you find a ritual or rite of passage you think you would be interested in writing about, go to your local library and ask the librarian to help you find more sources for that subject.

The 2 such a lot visible could be misedashi and erikae, that you will have to study your self. Mizuage used to be played ago however not is, no less than now not in how it was. One of the opposite men and women acknowledged Ohaguro, that's whatever SOME maiko do within the lead-as much as erikae. It's now not a ritual in and of itself and it isn't whatever all of them do.

I know that Orthodox Jew females, once they've passed a certain age, shave their bodily hair.
I don't know too many other details, but it could be something worth looking into as it's widespread but not reported.
