Hi

The oil light is NOT a level indicator, it is a PRESSURE indicator and it is indicating that the engine oil pressure is DANGEROUSLY low!!

This can be due to a low oil level, a worn oil pump, but it can also be due to a very worn engine, which can be due to running the vehicle for too long with a low oil level, so its all linked in one way or another, but primarily, the oil light indicates low oil pressure, not low oil level.

99% of the time, when this light comes on it is too late, but you may want to check your oil level, and if its overly low, top it up. You will however need to keep an eye on it because if you do look after your car then something must be happening to the oil, such as a leak for instance, or any of the above.

If you are not mechanically minded then take your car to someone who is and they can sort it out for you or you will wind up needing a new engine or a rebuild if it is financially viable.

Just as a matter of interest, if the oil light only comes on as you are cornering or as you brake or accelerate, then this will be due to a pressure drop due to a low oil level wherein the oil is surging away from the oil pump pick up and the pickup is pumping air instead of oil, straight into the big end bearing shells, and this in turn causes the big ends to crash land on the bearing shells and I'll leave the rest to your imagination, but its not good!!

Cheers

Geordie

Engine. If you keep driving with that oil light on, you'll be buying a new engine instead of a bottle of oil.

The mian oil light on the dashboard usually refers to the engine oil. Seek assistance immediately, don't continue to drive it. If there is a problem, you could ruin your engine.

Oil stress and oil point are 2 particularly some issues, as you will have guessed. in the adventure that your oil is unquestionably on the the ideal option point, as evidenced with the aid of reading the ''dipstick'', extra suitable than probably your point sensor is undesirable. you could replace it or disable the mild and in simple terms save your eye on your oil point the old school way (the dipstick).
