All I see is women in baggy sweats and hair back in a ponytail, no makeup and no smile. What happened to the classy woman that cared about how she looks?

There are still women like that , in Latin America and the Caribbean especially. A lot of North American women are not raised to be feminine it seems unfortunately.

As a mom of a 2 and a half year old I prefer sweats to dresses because my kid will inevitable get something on my clothes. I dress nicely when I go out and I always wear makeup. However a quick trip to the store or cleaning house does not in my opinion warrant a dress, high heals, and pearls. Women of today are not all June Cleavers. Trust me if I had the money and didn't have to go to work and all I had to do all day was sit around and eat bon bons while the servants did everything for me then I would love to wear fancy pretty clothes all day long. I clean my own house, wash my own car, play with my son and do what a real woman does everyday. I cook supper for my husband on occasion and doing those things can wreck any manicure you have. It takes time and being able to not worry about lifting a finger to do what you say. Dresses are cool for outings and Sunday but everyday they are not feasible.
Oh a note to the person that said the big girls don't need to be wearing those short skirts and midriff tops, A big right on. Do they really think they look attractive with all that hanging out everywhere? It is the same with the low rise pants on girls that have roles. I have them but I don't walk around looking like a can of popped Pillsbury Biscuits. Looking at that is like looking at a plumbers crack and a beer belly on a man named Bubba. GROSS!

That classy woman is still around, she's just saving the dresses for when that classy man takes her out. Dresses are not practical for everyday wear. Women have more active lifestyles now. We have jobs, children, husbands, homes, and pets to take care of. Not to mention taking care of ourselves with exercise and sports. It's a fast-paced world we live in and it's hard to keep up in that world in high heeled shoes. Imagine if you wore a suit and tie everyday all day long...even when you are just making a quick run to Home Depot. It's not practical. I'll agree with you that baggy sweats are way too relaxed for public. But that goes for everyone...men and women. What we need is good grooming within the confines of the situation.

Why are men wearing pink shirts and eyeliner now?

I think the problem of today is that people are soooooo busy they don't have TIME to care about their looks. Women when they stayed at home while the men went out to work had the time to do their nails, do their hair and sit around in pretty dresses, but it's not practical to wear a dress now for a lot of women. It's hard enough walking down the street without the wind trying to force your skirt upwards! Now people also have choice about what they want to wear, unless it is very obvious a person may wear mostly what they like and not be judged for it.

And the other thing if you go by history men have worn dresses for far longer than women have ever worn pants.

Why don't men wear ties and 3 piece suits anymore? All I see is guys in baggy cargo shorts and hoodies, and they don't even wear cologne. What happened to the classy gentleman that cared about how he looked?

Seriously, I hate dresses. They can be nice for summer but not year round. Ponytails are VERY popular and you might understand why if you had really long hair in your face all the time.

Even in the 50's classy women put their hair back and/or up. The ponytail was popular. Makeup and jewelry are generally reserved for dates and nice places. I get hit on enough (older slob that I am) that I can't imagine how many desperate men would approach me if I dressed for attention.

:)

My belief is that unless it's a date, no one else is entitled to have any idea what I look like under my baggy outfit. Men have said they enjoy the mystery... Makeup doesn't look so good on a woman the morning after. Yuck.

Natural is good.

As a mother of 3 children, I find it more comfortable to dress in jeans and a comfortable shirt so I can be free to chase them. However, I do take time to maintain my appearance. I also take time to fix my hair and wear some make-up. On occasion, I will wear a dress or a skirt.

I think the reason a lot women don't wear dresses and kind of let themselves go is for comfort and lack of demand. A lot of today's professions lack just that...professionalism. If a woman is not required to dress nicely, why would she? I guess a lot of people don't have too much pride in the way their appearance reflects their inner person.

I care about my appearance, but I just find more comfort in a t-shirt and jeans. If the situation calls for a dress, I'll of course wear one, I'm not going to be rebellious. But the majority of the time, I have on jeans and a shirt. I think it depends on your lifestyle. I like to go biking, and I work out, plus I play with my kids alot, and it is a little difficult to do these things wearing a dress. But as for the part about not smiling, I always wear my jeans and t-shirts with a smile on my face. :) And you can still be very feminine, even in the jeans and t-shirts.

Well I'm one of those with the baggy sweats and hair in the pony tail, but I always have a smile and make up. I've done too many years in heels in suits and dresses and have the back to prove it. Comfort is what I care more about now. And have you ever tried to get a pair of panty hose on? oiy what a pain the butt that is.

I care about how I look - but I never wear dresses. There's a difference between being classy and conforming to someone else's ideal of what a woman is supposed to be.

Classy is in the eye of the beholder

As for dresses, I wear them a lot more in warmer weather, which is on its way (I live in Canada). However, I don't wear sweatpants at all, and don't go out in public without makeup unless I'm sick and heading to the hospital. I suppose if my building was on fire, that might be a good reason too. Neither of my sisters wear makeup, but they are both absolutely beautiful, so I don't necessarily equate no makeup with looking dowdy.

I don't know where you live, but most women I know do very much care about their appearance.
