Yes? No? Ideas? Suggestions?

Prayers go out to him.

BarB...thanks for a detailed description. I've met the governor several times. As someone of high value and stature, I have to believe he is a dedicated person toward public administration.

This question received only two answers.

Had I asked if anyone loves the color yellow, I'd have gotten about thirty answers.

Our ability to prioritize is sorely lacking.

Yes, this accident was preventable.

I can enumerate all the ways in which it could have been prevented, and point you towards a better system of traveling which may one day be adopted.

The overriding issue is whether speed limits are necessary, and whether the vehicles we trust our lives with are worthy of our confidence.

I answer with a resounding...NO!

Our manner of traveling expects accidents to happen, and it's actually become a way of life.

NJ resident here.

He is so seriously injured. I hope he makes a full recovery. I don't always agree with his politics but I wish the man well.

Local news reports here say that they have found the "red pickup truck" and driver that apparently "caused" the accident. It is a young man - he said he saw the Governors caravan behind him in his rearview mirror so he pulled over on the shoulder to let it pass. In his path was a mileage marker so he pulled back into the right lane to avoid hitting it. That's when the white car swerved and hit the Governors vehicle. He said he didn't know of the accident - and, so far, no charges have been filed against him.

Other witnesses to the event say that the motorcade was traveling between 90 and 100 miles per hour! (Speed limit on the Parkway is 65).

The Governor is a living example of why you should wear a seatbelt. He would probably have still been injured - as were others in the van - but he wouldn't have been tossed around and ended up with his legs out the window. He broke EVERY rib, his collarbone, his sternum and had a compound fracture of the largest bone in the body. I hope he makes it and I hope next time he gets in a car, he puts on his seatbelt.

Leonard: Yes, I agree about the responses. There are a lot of people on here who are simply clueless. I try to bypass their questions as much as possible and try to find some sort of "higher ground".

I understand the Governor had to undergo surgery again today.

Yes, I agree the accident was totally preventable but then, most of them are, aren't they? Shoddy cars, lack of courtesy towards those sharing the road, complete disregard for speed limits, not paying attention to what you are doing behind the wheel and more, all contribute.

Hit and run.... We need to know the other guy's story before that can be determined. I think there are few scenarios where it was unpreventable though.

A lot of the Gov's injuries were preventable though. Funny thing about a seat belt.... It only works if you wear it Every Dam Time. Lack of a belt makes me wonder about the Gov's attitude towards life and privelege, sorta like Barack's smoking or Clinton's or Gary Hart's fooling around....

This tragic accident could've well been prevented....if WE grew up as a REAL mature society. The accident didn't hurt Governor Corzine--WE DID--WITH OUR STUPIDITY!!!

Corzine was on his way to his home, to preside over the strained meeting between Imus and the Rutgers Team.....frivolity at it's peak--senselessly fueled by Al Sharpton and circus crew.

If we REALLY matured as a society, we'd simply forgiven Imus and let him ride out his suspension and this stupid meeting would've never happened; thus the accident threatening Corzine's life would've never come about, either.

Politically correct people really are stupid.....geezus!!
