Yep, both of the above answers are correct, who wants to spend $2 on a postcard plus 50 cents on a stamp and then have to wait 2 days or more (see below) for it to arrive ?
The last time I sent some postcards was on my honeymoon in Australia and the day after we returned to Malaysia my friends received them, lousy service!

I guess because people got into the habit of sending e-cards on the internet now. I use to send postcards all the time some years ago and also getting some from my friends. I met my best friend 46 years ago through an exchange of postcards club. And I can tell you this was much more interesting than writing e-mail, which we are now doing because we're not travelling much anymore.
Thanks to postcards, I got a life time friend. Three hundred miles apart, and yet so close!

well, it's the email and instant messaging that is taking the place of them, but whenever anyone from my office goes somewhere, we always send one to the group left back home. It's easier to send just one postcard than to try and make sure we don't leave anyone out with letters or email.

Emails, IM, and text messaging has replaced this. Also the fact that phone calls are now cheaper and easier than they used to be.
